Jimmy Piffero

Jimmy Piffero, one of the stars of CYMS's 1975 Grand Final victory over Macquarie passed away on Sunday 12th May, aged 61, after a long battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cootamundra on Thursday 16th May at 11am.

Moving to Dubbo for the 1975 season, on the recommendation of his brother-in-law and then CYMS hooker Brian Wilson, Jim only had one season in Green and White but his impact was significant.

Jim was named as the reserve utility back in the John McDonnell (Canterbury's 1974 grand final captain v Easts) led CYMS team to take on Macquarie in the 1975 decider.

In the opening minutes of the Grand Final, a trademark Marshall Peachey shoulder charge whacked the ribcage of CYMS five-eighth Neil Musgrave so hard, he was forced off with a punctured lung.

Enter Jimmy Piffero.

He slotted into the halves seamlessly. Played the game of his life and helped CYMS to a famous 20-7 victory over the arch-enemy. Most say he was the player of the match.

Jim is survived by his wife Judy, his loving children and grandchildren.
